VCR Quietly Passes Away

The VCR is history. JVC, developer of the VHS format, has stopped making standalone decks. The news was not unexpected-DVD replaced VHS as the program-rental medium of choice in 2003. But if you've got a large VHS library, don't panic. You'll still be able to buy DVD/VCR combos to play your old tapes. As for Betamax, VHS's old nemesis, Sony stopped making decks in 2002.

Beatles Go Online — Via Gaming

The news that the Beatles will finally go online came with an unexpected twist. Instead of authorizing downloads on iTunes and other online retailers, the surviving members and estates green-lighted a video game by the maker of Rock Band. MTV-Harmonix promises to weave the Fab Four’s musical classics and iconic images into “an experiential journey’ As for iTunes and other download retailers, Sir Paul McCartney has been hinting at deals for years. In the meantime, Apple offers a Beatles-branded iPod, for $795, which merely includes an etched insignia on the player and comes with music on old-fashioned CDs.
