2008 год - из Mini в Maxi

В наши кризисные времена труднее всего приходится внедорожникам. Они стали жертвой собственной популярности. Автокомпании вынуждены закрывать заводы и даже продавать целые подразделения (как, например, поступил General Motors со славной маркой Hummer). Но дизайнеры не сдаются. Стремясь угодить покупателям, они берутся переделывать в джипы даже самые неприспособленные к этому авто. Например, Mini Cooper.

Казалось бы, ну какой из Mini вездеход? Он же даже на бордюр не заедет, не сорвав бампер. Но, оказывается, это дело техники. Во-первых, у фирмы уже был подходящий прототип - удлиненная 5-дверка Clubman. 4-метровая платформа прибавила и в ширину. В итоге Crossman (так называется новинка) стал самым крупным авто британской марки. Поднять кузов за счет элементов подвески и добавить систему полного привода не составило труда. И вот уже перед нами - классический кроссовер.

Полноценным внедорожником Mini не стать, но от шустрого авто с 1,6-литровым турбомотором от Cooper S этого никто и не ждет. Стиль и впечатление - вот главное. И в этом Mini прибавил по максимуму. В дизайне автомобиля реализована масса прогрессивных, хотя порой и странных идей. Вот, например, новый дизайн приборов Mini Center Globe. Спидометр сделан в виде глобуса. Стрелка бегает по меридиану, а на параллелях расположены подсветка и индикаторы. На поверхность путем лазерной проекции выводится информация с музыкального центра, бортовой навигации и т. п. Чтобы завести двигатель, надо опустить в углубление на Северном полюсе электронный ключ Keyball. Шарик скатывается в центральную часть Center Globe и появляется в углублении на стенке сферы. Ну просто магический шар!

При этом Crossman хоть и маленький, но по удобству входа-выхода соперничает с мини-вэнами. Сзади по левому борту - сдвижная задняя дверь. Доступ в багажник открывает цельная дверь на петле. Кстати, крыша тоже складная.

Firstly, the company already had a suitable prototype - an extended 5-door Clubman. The 4-meter platform also increased in width. As a result, the Crossman (that’s the name of the new product) became the largest car of the British brand. Raising the body due to suspension elements and adding a four-wheel drive system was not difficult. And now we have a classic crossover in front of us. Mini is not a full-fledged SUV, but no one expects this from a fast car with a 1.6-liter turbo engine from Cooper S. Style and impression are the main thing.

And in this Mini has improved to the maximum. The design of the car implements a lot of progressive, although sometimes strange ideas. For example, the new design of the Mini Center Globe instruments. The speedometer is made in the form of a globe. The arrow runs along the meridian, and the backlight and indicators are located on the parallels. Information from the music center, on-board navigation, etc. is displayed on the surface by means of laser projection. To start the engine, you need to lower the Keyball electronic key into the recess at the North Pole. The ball rolls into the central part of the Center Globe and appears in the recess on the wall of the sphere. Well, just a magic ball!

At the same time, although the Crossman is small, it competes with minivans in terms of ease of entry and exit. At the back on the left side is a sliding rear door. Access to the trunk is provided by a solid door on a hinge. By the way, the roof is also folding.
